Volleyball Splits Road Trip After Falling In Grambling
GRAMBLING, La. – TSU volleyball split its road trip after falling 3-0 to Grambling State on Monday evening.
The first set was intense with a plethora of lead changes as TSU scored four straight to lead 15-14 before a back-and-forth contest which ended up with both teams tied at 19. However, GSU scored six of the next seven to win 25-20.
Grambling State broke open a 6-4 set two lead with a 9-0 run to lead 15-4. TSU refused to go away as they buckled down and drew to within 18-13 but Grambling State regrouped and outscored TSU 7-2 to win set two 25-15.
Grambling State once again had a fast start as they led 9-3 in set three before a TSU rally closed to gap to 11-8 after kills from Thalia Cordero Moreno and Tyra Williams. But once again, GSU put together another big run as the close contest turned into a 20-9 TSU deficit. Grambling State pushed the lead to 24-14 but TSU tacked on four straight to draw within 24-18 but GSU added a kill to close out the match.
Danielle Lilley led TSU with five kills while Kourtni Collier added a team-high five blocks. Alaiyah Fields has 10 assists followed by 15 digs from Dallas-Balanay Flores.
TSU is back in action on Sunday at the first SWAC round-up as they’ll face Alabama State and Jackson State at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively in Montgomery, Ala.
