Lady Tigers take a trio of first-place finishes at Howie Ryan Invitational
HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University took home a trio of first-place finishes Friday at the Howie Ryan Invitational.
At the University of Houston’s Yeoman Fieldhouse, Alexis Gray won two events – the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash – with season-best times to lead the Lady Tigers. She won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.08 seconds.
In the 60-meter dash, Gray finished with the top time in the preliminaries, semifinals, and finals of the event. She turned in her fastest time in the event final, finishing the race in a season-best 7.48 seconds.
A TSU athlete also won the 400-meter dash. Nikole Haroon won the race with a time of 56.66 seconds, which also marked a season best.
In the high-jump, Quintella Johnson finished tied for third place with a jump of 1.7 meters (5 feet, 7 inches). Johnson and Prairie View A&M’s Nekiesha Bailey were the top finishers representing college teams.
The weight throw event saw TSU’s Christelle Nintcheu finish sixth place with a throw of 15.68 meters (51 feet, 5.5 inches).
The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday and Friday when they take part in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championship meet in Birmingham, Ala.
