Brooks, Perkins Win Titles At Howie Ryan Invitational

The Texas Southern women’s track & field team enters the 2023 SWAC Championship on a high note with a pair of first-place finishes and six top-10 performances at the Howie Ryan Invitational this past weekend.
 
Shelby Brooks picked up where she left off a few weeks ago with a first-place finish in the 400 with a time of 55.74. Her time currently ranks second in the SWAC at this point of the year. Madison Dominguez also had another strong weekend as she placed fifth in the 400 (57.04) with a season-best mark as it ranks eighth in the SWAC.
 
Kaleese Branch finished eighth overall in the high jump (5-3) while Skyla Faux placed eighth in the shot put (43-10.75) and weight throw (50-4.5).
 
Phylan Perkins had a strong weekend with a pair of personal bests in both the shot put and weight throw. She set a personal and SWAC-best mark in the weight throw with a length of 60-11.25 while throwing 42-4.25 in the shot put.
 
TSU is back in action Thursday and Friday at the 2023 SWAC Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala.
