TSUSports.com: Women’s Track & Field Wraps Up Busy Weekend With Solid Performances

TSU women’s track & field had a busy weekend with participants at the Victor Lopez Classic and Prairie View Relays.

At the Victor Lopez Relays at Rice University, Calise Hardy finished second overall in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 19-6. Phylan Perkins won the hammer with a personal-best throw of 170-10 while Skyla Faux placed fifth with a personal-best throw of 146-2. Lelya Wright (41-6.5) finished fifth in the shot put followed by Perkins (40-5). Jalecia Smith finished fourth in the javelin with a mark of 105-5.

Down the highway at Prairie View A&M, Briana Creeks placed second and moved up to third in the SWAC in the 800 (2:15.10) while Ashlonia John and Mikayla Koester finished 4-5 in the 400. Lillie Burnett placed sixth in the 200 followed by Kayla Jenkins’ fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

TSU closed out the meet in style as they posted the second-fastest time in the SWAC in the mile relay (Rayah Wynn, John, Creeks, Shelby Brooks) as they ran a time of 3:45.39.

The team is back in action at Texas A&M on April 8.
