LORMAN, Miss. – Marquis Salmon's double-double led four Texas Southern players scoring in double-figures Saturday as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State 78-71 to conclude the regular season on a four-game winning streak.
Salmon's 13 points were the fewest among TSU's top four scorers, but it was a career high 23 rebounds that put the exclamation point on the double-double. Salmon's 23 boards marked a career high, as well as a season high for any player in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season; the 23 rebounds were the most by a TSU player since Derek Griffin secured 26 at Louisville in Dec. 2016.
Donte Clark scored a game-high 24 points for TSU (12-19, 12-6 SWAC), followed by Trae Jefferson (20 points) and Derrick Bruce (14).
The Tigers finished tied with Arkansas–Pine Bluff and Prairie View A&M at 12-6 in SWAC play, TSU will be the No. 3 seed in the Toyota SWAC Tournament, and will host Alabama State in a quarterfinal game Tuesday, following the conclusion of the women's basketball quarterfinal.
