BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – TSU made a late comeback but saw its season end after a big eighth inning from Jackson State in a 12-6 loss on Thursday morning at Rickwood Field.
TSU opened the first with an RBI from Jaden Flores but JSU answered with a run in the bottom of the first as they stole home following a strikeout. Jackson State would extend its lead to 7-1 entering the eighth but TSU would fight back with a vengeance with clutch two-out hitting.
A dropped ball by JSU led to two runs by TSU followed by Evan Joubert's RBI single for a 7-4 margin. Bryce Hughes would drive in two runs to draw within 7-6 but the inning would end unfortunately on an athletic tag at first by JSU.
Jackson State reclaimed the momentum back with a five-run eighth to create separation and closed out the game with three consecutive outs after a Jaden Jones' leadoff walk.
Hughes finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Justin Mayes went six innings with three strikeouts on the mound.
