Destinee Payne and Desirae Roberts posted first-place finishes as TSU women's track & field had a strong day with 11 top-five marks at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational on Thursday.
Roberts won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.87 to highlight the running events while Cesley Williams placed third after a career-best time of 55.48 in the 400. Bayli George placed fifth in the 400 after running 56.10. Lyriq Ray ran a personal-best 14.64 in the 100-meter hurdles while the 4x100-meter relay of George, Car'De Moore, Williams and Erica Grant placed third after running a season-best 45.95.
Londyn Brown jumped 4-11 to place second in the high jump followed by Diamond Barrett's 4-9 to place third. Payne won the triple jump after logging a mark of 39-3.75 while Kennedy Brown jumped a career-best 38-4.25 to place second.
Kayla Robert-Day's throw of 41-2.25 in the shot put was a personal-best and good for fourth while Rehanna Roberts (143-2) and Ronelle Plaza (143-0) finished 4-5 in the hammer.
The team is back in action next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Victor Lopez Classic at Rice University.
