MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In a thrilling showdown, the TSU women's basketball team secured a dramatic 69-67 victory over Alabama State on the Hornets' home court, maintaining their historic undefeated streak and their first road sweep in the state of Alabama since 2020.
In the early moments, both teams struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Treasure Thompson got TSU on the scoreboard first, putting up six quick points in the first quarter. Alyasia Fantroy joined the action, stretching the gap by scoring five points. The Lady Tigers extended their lead with a three-pointer by Courtlyn Loudermill and a fast-break layup by Thompson, ending the first quarter with a 21-12 lead.

In the second quarter, TSU continued to dominate as ASU struggled with turnovers and missed shots, which the Lady Tigers capitalized on. Consistent scoring from Fantroy and Loudermill helped TSU go into halftime with a significant 41-25 lead.

Alabama State made a strong effort to close the gap after halftime, outscoring TSU 21-11 in the third quarter. However, TSU maintained their lead with a solid defense led by Aaliyah Henderson and Harris, keeping ASU at bay. The Lady Tigers entered the fourth quarter up 52-46.

In the final quarter, the game remained intense and competitive as ASU kept knocking on the door early but TSU refused to open as they held a one-point lead on several occasions through the first eight minutes. ASU finally got TSU to crack the door open as they tied the contest at 61-all at the two-minute mark but Loudermill made a key bucket with 48 seconds left for a 63-61 lead. The Hornets finally forced their way past TSU with a three-pointer off an offensive rebound for a 64-63 lead which led to a TSU timeout.

TSU failed to capitalize after the timeout with a turnover which ASU recovered followed by a foul which gave the Hornets a shot to pad their lead with two free throw attempts. ASU hit 1-of-2 for a 65-63 lead with 30 seconds which led to a TSU timeout.
Fantroy took ownership of the huddle and the ensuing possession as she was fouled and scored a driving layup to knot the game at 65 with 28 seconds left. The free throw was good for a 66-65 margin to put TSU ahead but ASU was fouled and had a shot to move ahead with two free throws.

ASU would miss both free throws with the game on the line and Treasure Thompson added to the lead (68-65) with a basket. The TSU defense came to play on the next possession as ASU was whistled for an offensive foul before a potential game-tying three-pointer fell through the basket at the eight second mark. Deaja Holmes was fouled and hit 1-of-2 free throws for a two-possession contest which sealed the win for TSU.

Despite ASU's efforts, Fantroy continued to be a key player, scoring crucial points and securing rebounds as she ended the night with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Treasure Thompson would contribute 12 points with Courtlyn Loudermill's 10 points. Deivejon Harris had 10 rebounds while Jaida Belton and Daeja Holmes grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively.

TSU returns to the friendly confines of the H&PE Arena on Saturday as they'll host Prairie View A&M at 12 p.m.
