GRAMBLING, La. – The Grambling State Lady Tigers led from start to finish Saturday as they defeated visiting Texas Southern 64-52.

Grambling scored 10 of the game's first 12 points and never saw its lead dip below 10 points after the 9:18 mark of the third quarter as the host team snapped Texas Southern's three-game winning streak.

Sophomore guard Joyce Kennerson scored a team-high 20 points for Texas Southern (14-8), which fell to 8-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Artavia Ford tallied 13 points and pulled in nine rebounds for visiting Lady Tigers.

The visiting Lady Tigers dropped to third place in the SWAC standings, one-half game behind Grambling and Alabama State.

Jazmine Torian scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead Grambling (10-12, 9-3 SWAC). Jazmin Boyd chipped in 19 points for the home team.

Grambling shot better than 40 percent from the floor and from 3-point range against TSU, which ranks No. 1 in the SWAC in field-goal percentage defense and 3-point defense. GSU shot 42.6 percent (23 of 54) from the floor, and 41 percent (9 of 22).

Texas Southern shot 41 percent (18 of 44) from the field and shot seven more free throws than the home team, but committed 20 turnovers. Grambling turned the ball over 12 times.

Grambling defeated TSU at home for the first time since 2011. Texas Southern has lost its last three games away from home.

Texas Southern concludes its weekend road trip at Jackson State on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
