LORMAN, Miss. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University claimed their ninth consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division title Friday with a five-inning, 9-0 win at Alcorn State.

Tevanae Tate and Madi Marek knocked in three runs apiece for the Lady Tigers (22-16-1), who finished conference play with a record of 13-5. Tate went 3-for-4 with a double in the game, while Marek knocked two doubles.

Felicia Garza picked up her first win in a TSU uniform, scattering three hits over five innings to get the complete-game shutout. Garza struck out two batters as she improved her season record to 1-2.

With the win, TSU widened its lead over Arkansas–Pine Bluff and Prairie View A&M to one and one-half (1.5) games. A TSU loss would have added confusion to the division race, as the two teams tied for second place each had games against division opponents rained out earlier this month.

Dominique Tello went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lady Tigers, while Ebony Wiltz, Jocilynn Ellis, and Zaria Robins also collected two hits apiece Friday. Wiltz pushed her batting average up to .403 after going 6-for-10 in three games at Alcorn.

The Lady Tigers will have the No. 1 seed from the West Division when the SWAC Tournament starts Friday in Montgomery, Ala.
