TSU Football Great Brett Maxie To Enter New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame

Texas Southern football legend and former NFL defensive back Brett Maxie has been selected for induction to the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.
A native of Dallas, Maxie was recruited to play quarterback at TSU but switched to defense early in his career and blossomed quickly. In 1983, Maxie led TSU with three interceptions as a sophomore and was a fixture in the secondary throughout his career as a starter.

Despite being undrafted, Maxie’s play on the field caught the eye of several NFL teams. He ultimately signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints in 1985 as former Houston Oiler head coach Bum Phillips coached the team. In 1986, new head coach Jum Mora, Sr. took over and established the defensive identity the team became known for and the rest was history.
