Mills Awarded 2023 N4A Opportunities Scholarship

TigerFans Academic Advisor Camille Mills was one of only 13 recipients nationally to receive the 2023 N4A Opportunities Scholarship.

The N4A Opportunities Scholarship is designed to support N4A members from Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), Low Resource Institutions (LRI), and Two-Year Colleges. Applicants must be a current dues-paying N4A member to be considered as the scholarship covers registration and lodging for the 2023 NACDA Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Mills, a former women’s basketball student-athlete at Texas Southern, was the first TSU student-athlete to graduate as her class salutatorian and earned summa cum laude honors. She immediately moved over to the academic side as an advisor in 2018 while earning her master’s degree in Sport Studies and Sport Leadership in 2019 from TSU.

She has quietly worked hard behind the scenes as an academic advisor for multiple sports and spirit organizations over the past few years as her main task is to ensure the academic needs for TSU’s student-athletes/spirit organizations are met in addition to serving as a liaison between her respective teams and TSU faculty. Mills has also served as an advisor for TSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) while also assisting the department with student-athlete programming off the playing fields.

“When hard works meets preparation, Camille is the manifest of investing in yourself and bloom where you are planted,” said TSU Assistant Athletics Director / Academic Enhancement Kimberly Evans. “Ms. Mills’ desire for personal growth and leadership is notable.  She is continuously seeking innovated ways to enhance student engagement, student mental health and academic matriculation of student-athletes, marching band, cheerleaders and dancers.  As a past N4A Scholarship recipient, the NCADA convention is a great opportunity to learn and network with the industry’s best.”

N4A, which has been in existence since 1975, is a diverse educational service and professional non-profit organization. Membership of N4A includes academic support and student services personnel who are committed to enhancing opportunities for academic, athletics and personal success for student-athletes.
