Cardinals Pull Away From Tigers In Late Innings

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar scored five runs over the final four innings as TSU fell 7-4 Tuesday evening.
 
TSU scored first in the second via Ruben Bennevendo’s RBI single which brought home Jordan Vidato for the 1-0 lead but Lamar tied it in the bottom frame on a solo homer. Lamar moved ahead 2-1 in the third on an RBI groundout but TSU fought back and jumped ahead 3-2 in the fourth on Vidato’s RBI bunt single and Bennevendo’s RBI.
 
The Cardinals tied it at 3-all in the fifth on a two-out RBI single and moved ahead with two runs in the seventh. After a 1-2-3 TSU eighth, Lamar tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom half for the 7-3 lead. TSU’s Jeremy Almaguer opened the ninth with a walk and scored TSU’s final run of the night on Tyrese Clayborne’s RBI double.
 
Vidato went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Bennevendo led TSU with two RBI. Lane Gordon received the start and led TSU with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of action while Josiah Castro (3-3) and Kobe Head came on in relief.
 
TSU is back in action on Friday at Prairie View A&M for a 3 p.m. start.
