Tigers Fire Lowest Tournament Round; Finish 2nd At Grant Thornton Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Texas Southern men’s golf team climbed up the leaderboard with the lowest tournament round to finish second to Stetson University at the Grant Thornton Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T University.
“Our guys fought hard in challenging conditions and were led by our senior (Landon Johnstone),” Texas Southern University head golf coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.
Senior Landon Johnstone maintained his strong play for the Tigers in his final round to finish tied for second with a 10-over total of 226 (75-74-77). Freshman William O’Conner finished tied for 11th after firing the tournament low-round of 2-under par 70 in his final round.
“I am hopeful that we learned a lot from this tournament and what it takes to better compete,” Dr. Grandison concluded.
The Tigers will have some downtime before gearing up to compete in the SWAC Championship from April 17-20. The tournament will be played at The Refuge Golf Club in Flowood, Miss.
