Pair Of First Half Goals Fuels Tigers Past UAPB In Home Finale
UAPB came out intense on the offensive end as they recorded four shots in the first 18 minutes of the half. TSU answered with the same amount of shots but finally hit paydirt as Kayla Smith moved the team ahead 1-0 after a goal in the 20th minute. Three minutes later, TSU padded its lead as Cass Sandoval scored for a 2-0 margin as it appeared the Tigers were well on their way to high-scoring afternoon. Despite getting off 11 more shots from that point, the Tigers couldn’t connect as they went into the half ahead 2-0.
The second half resembled the the end of the first half as TSU had numerous opportunities on the offensive end with 18 shots. Even through TSU had a comfortable lead, UAPB managed to make things interesting with several solid looks at the goal but the Tiger defense remained on their toes with solid play in the box.
Jada MacLean led TSU with five shots followed by Kayla Smith’s four shots and a goal. Crisely Pavon also added four shots while Begona Rodriguez, and Macey Shipman added three shots.Â
Even though TSU is done at home for the year, they’ll remain in the Houston area as they’ll travel to Prairie View next Friday night for a 7 p.m. kick. One week later, the 2019 SWAC Tournament will be played at Prairie View.
