HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers Football team started spring practice on March 20 in preparation for the 2018 season.

The year's camp marks a new era for Texas Southern offensively as recently hired Offensive Coordinator Morris Watts takes over a TSU offense that ranked 7th in scoring, 8th in total offense and 8th in passing offense last season.

Watts will have several options at the quarterback position going into next season. Joining this years' group of TSU quarterbacks over the course of the offseason was Glen Cuiellette who transferred to TSU from Tulane. TSU Football also recently announced the addition of quarterback Devin Williams from Blinn College. Also returning from a season ending injury from last season is quarterback Jay Christophe.

"We're excited about the direction of our football program," said TSU head coach Mike Haywood when asked about the current state of TSU Football. "Last season we traveled 24 freshmen for road games with many of them contributing in positive ways for our football team."

"We feel with the growth those guys will make during the offseason along with the experience and talent we've signed with this year's signing class we should be able to make significant improvements in all three facets of the game next season."

TSU will continue spring drills over the course of the upcoming weeks prior to wrapping up practices later this month.

Texas Southern will host its Annual Maroon versus Grey Spring Game on Saturday, April 21st at Alexander Durley Stadium located on the campus of TSU.

All fans in attendance will get complimentary admission to the event with the start time scheduled for 12:00 pm.

TSU will officially open the 2018 season at home versus UT-Permian Basin (Sept. 1) at BBVA Compass Stadium. This will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs.
