TSU Bowling opens 2018-19 campaign
Final Results
HOUSTON – The Texas Southern Lady Tigers competed in their first match of the season in the All State Sugar Bowl Collegiate, hosted by Tulane University. The Lady Tigers finished the weekend winning six games and losing seven, putting them at 11th place.
"As we played each match, the players found themselves close in score to the opponents and in each match", said head coach Sabrina Rose. "The TSU team put themselves in a position win and I am proud of them."
The TSU Women's Bowling team beat fellow SWAC rivals, Southern, Grambling, and Southern University, and ended with an average score of 174.6.
Summer Salak led the Lady Tigers this past weekend earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team. Summer averaged a 196.80, and held the fourth place in scores for the individual standings. Behind her was Brittany Torres averaging 177.80 and Samantha Kriner averaging 176.80.
"Summer Salak has one of the strongest convictions and work ethic I've seen in my years as a coach at TSU", said Rose. "She led the team in scoring averaging 196.8 and closed critical frames during matches."
The Lady Tiger's first match was against Alabama A&M, where they won 904-651 in five games. Their third match was against Grambling State University as they defeated them 772-622, with average of 155.2. The Lady Tiger's tenth match was against Southern University where they won with a score of 865-849.
"On the first two days of competition, TSU was able to win match points against Alabama A&M and Jackson State during baker and team game matches", said Rose. "We also competed against Southern twice on Sunday defeating them 4-1 in match one and 4-2 in match three. It is always our intention to compete well and represent SWAC to the best of our ability."
Despite finishing 11th, Head Coach Sabrina Rose found some positives from the Lady Tigers' play this past weekend.
"We are competing each and every game", said Rose. "The team chemistry is good with a healthy respect for each and every athlete. It has been a strategic advantage that this team has gelled so quickly."
Texas Southern will be back in action November 2-4, when they compete in the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State University.
