MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Texas Southern won its third consecutive game on Saturday with a big road win over Alabama State 86-73.
Jalan McCloud led TSU with 22 points and Zach Lofton had 21 points, four rebounds and four assists while Kevin Scott contributed with 10 points, nine rebounds and one steal to keep the Tigers in first place in the conference standings.
Texas Southern held a 42-37 lead going into halftime.
TSU currently leads Alcorn State by a half game for the right to be the SWAC's No. 1 seed in tournament play.
Tony Armstrong had 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds and Rodney Simeon added 16 points to lead the Hornets.
Texas Southern shot 48 percent from the field while limiting ASU to shooting 42 percent. TSU out rebounded Alabama State 38-24 while also forcing them into committing 17 turnovers.
TSU also was able to capitalize at the free throw line connecting on 24-of-30 attempts.
The Tigers will return to the court on Monday at Alabama A&M.
