TSUSports.com: Tigers' rally falls short in 12-10 loss to Arkansas–Pine Bluff

HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University fell behind early Friday and then fought their way back before falling 12-10 to Arkansas–Pine Bluff.

TSU (7-15, 4-2 SWAC) trailed by as much as 10 runs and were in danger of being "run-ruled" by a 12-2 score in eight innings before the Tigers rallied for eight runs and nine hits – all singles – in the bottom of the eighth. Gaudencio Lucca, Jacob Gilbreath, and Jose Cabreja each knocked two base hits in the inning, including RBI singles in their second time batting in the inning.

Arkansas–Pine Bluff (7-10) improved to 4-3 in SWAC play. Tim Reynolds earned the win for the Golden Lions, pitching five and two-thirds innings.

Seth Oliver and Daniel Vasquez both pitched at least three innings in relief for the Tigers. Chris Suarez pitched a scoreless ninth; Mason Furlong started and absorbed the loss for TSU.

Cabreja, Lucca, and Kamren Dukes each knocked two RBIs for TSU.

The Tigers and Golden Lions resume their series Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Houston's MacGregor Park.
