History
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second straight game, Bethune-Cookman squeaked home a pair of late runs for a 5-3 win over TSU in the 2025 SWAC Baseball Tournament inside Rickwood Field.
Tyler Legendre opened the scoring for TSU with a solo homer in the second for the early 1-0 lead. After a pair of strikeouts, Elijah Rodriguez drew a walk and scored on Kelton Phillips' RBI double. Phillips would score the third run on Bryce Hughes' RBI single for the 3-0 lead.
BCU cut the margin to 3-1 after scoring in the second and added another in the fourth to trail 3-2. They would eventually tie it at 3-all in the fifth before moving ahead 4-3 in the seventh after a leadoff double and a pair of singles. The Wildcats crossed home a run in the eighth to lead 5-3 as TSU opened the ninth with a leadoff single but couldn't capitalize after a double play and game-ending groundout to second.
Phillips led TSU with two hits while Calvin McClendon had a strong game on the mound despite a losing effort.
TSU is back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Jackson State in a consolation affair.
