HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Tigers of Texas Southern University finished in fourth place at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship that concluded Sunday.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 121 points, 16 points behind third-place Alabama State, and 34 points ahead of Jackson State.

Grambling State won the championship by a half-point over Prairie View A&M, with Grambling overtaking the Tigers in the championship's final event, the men's 4x400-meter relay.

TSU HIGHLIGHTS

Harvey Kendall cleared 2.06 meters in the men's high jump, winning the gold. In second was Alabama A&M's Ezekiel Rose (2.02m), and Jackson State's Aaron Ross Jr. was third (1.98m).

Jawalyn Brooks took silver in the pole vault, clearing 4.65 meters for his best vault. Tristan Ham of Prairie View took the gold, also clearing 4.65 meters, but did so in fewer attempts.

D'Andre Lewis of Texas Southern won the men's 800-meter run in 1:51.36. UAPB's Harlan Clarke (1:52.87) and Malique Smith (1:53.27) were second and third, respectively.

Mykele Young-Sanders of Texas Southern posted a time of 50.64 seconds to win the 400-meter hurdles. Logan Williams of Prairie View took silver with a time of 51.59 seconds, and Alabama A&M's Tre Williams (52.20) finished third.

TSU's Chris Allen took bronze in the shot put with a throw of 14.85 meters. Alabama State's Roshaine Byfield won gold with a toss of 16.62 meters, followed by William Gordon of Alcorn State, who took the silver (15.61m).

Xavier Martinez of TSU crashed Grambling's podium by taking third place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 55.84 seconds. Martinez overtook Aaron Austin of Prairie View down the final stretch of the race, and joined GSU's Noah Rugut (9:46.30) and Hassan Chepkwony (9:48.77) on the medal stand.

Ahmad Francis claimed bronze for TSU in the javelin with a throw of 45.53 meters. He finished behind UAPB's Miles Dortch (50.4m) and Alabama State's Javaris Goins (49.5m).

Texas Southern's Terrell Perry won the final event of day one, taking the gold in the men's hammer throw (52.17m). Alabama State's Harry Rhodes finished second (47.96m) and in third was Dortch of UAPB (47.11m).
