Houston, Texas— Texas Southern defeated the Panthers 12-2 on Saturday, led by Jaden Flores' two home runs and two RBIs.
Jaden Flores hit two home runs and drove in two as Texas Southern defeated the Panthers 12-2 on Saturday. Flores homered in the second and seventh innings.
Texas Southern got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Flores hit a solo home run to left field, Kelton Phillips doubled, scoring two runs, and Bryce Hughes homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Texas Southern extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Daylon Carlton and Phillips.
Texas Southern added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to home runs by Flores and Carlton.
Texas Southern scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run to left field by Damian Garcia, putting the Tigers up by ten runs and ending the game.
Justin Mays earned the win for Texas Southern. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking five. Ahmar "Tiger" Donatto took the loss for the Panthers. The starter went two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on six hits, striking out three and walking five. Bubba Moya tossed three innings of scoreless ball for Texas Southern in relief. The hurler gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking none.
Texas Southern amassed 12 hits in the game. Carlton, the number nine hitter for Texas Southern, led the way with four runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Lead off hitter Phillips led Texas Southern with three hits in five at bats. Hughes and Flores each collected multiple hits for Texas Southern.
Jayden Williams went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Williams and Brayden Johnson each collected one hit for the Panthers. The Panthers turned one double play in the game.
