PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Texas Southern softball split its regular season road finale at UAPB on Tuesday.

TSU 3, UAPB 2

Paris Johnson scored the winning run in the top of the seventh as TSU claimed a 3-2 win in the opener.

Pam Richardson singled in the third with two outs followed by Karisma Garcia’s walk. Angel Morales hit an RBI single to score Richardson for the 1-0 lead. The lead increased to 2-0 in the fourth as Marissa Martinez, who reached on a single, scored on Johnson’s RBI single.

UAPB added two runs in the fourth to tie it at 2-all as the score remained the same until the seventh. In the seventh, Johnson led the inning off with a single to left, stole second and made it to third with one out after a UAPB error. UAPB had a pitching change and forced a strikeout for the second out but TSU moved ahead as UAPB couldn’t field Lanay Carr’s hit ball cleanly which allowed Johnson to score. Starting pitcher Lailah Bell forced three straight flyouts to end the game in the bottom frame.

Johnson, Richardson and Morales all went 2-for-4 as Johnson and Morales had an RBI. Bell allowed only two runs on six hits to earn the win.

UAPB 3, TSU 2

TSU fought back to force extra innings but UAPB scored twice in the eighth to claim a 3-2 win.

This contest was originally scheduled to be played in March in Houston but was postponed due to weather as TSU was the home team.

UAPB opened the first with an RBI double to lead 1-0. The score remained the same until the sixth as Lanay Carr’s sac fly scored Paris Johnson, who reached via a leadoff single.

The contest remained 1-all until the eighth as the Lady Lions led the inning off with a single followed by a sac bunt. UAPB broke the tie with a pair of RBI doubles to lead 3-1. TSU had an opportunity to get back into the game as Johnson led the eighth off with a double. With one out, Karisma Garcia singled home Johnson for a 3-2 deficit but UAPB forced back-to-back strikeouts to end the contest.

Johnson and Richardson both had two hits for TSU. Maren Berger and Madalynn Gonzales (6-3) combined to strikeout 10 batters with five each.

TSU is back at home as they’ll host Southern for senior weekend on Friday at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park.
