TSUSports.com: Softball Splits Doubleheader, Wins Series At Southern

TSU split its doubleheader at Southern on Tuesday to win its third straight conference series.

TSU 6, SOUTHERN 3

TSU scored three runs in the eighth to defeat Southern 6-3 in extra innings in the opener.

TSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second as Haley Castro and Destinee Dixon recorded an RBI followed by a wild pitch which scored Jordan McClain. Southern added a run in the second and tied it up in the fourth with a pair of runs. The Jaguars had a game-winning run with two outs on second in the bottom of the seventh but starter Lailah Bell recorded a strikeout to force extra innings.

TSU’s Jayda Carter led the eighth off with a single and Madison Griggs moved over pinch runner Nya Leday-Johnson on a sac bunt. A wild pitch allowed Leday-Johnson to move to third and eventually home as TSU claimed a 4-3 lead. Madison Battle singled and Saniah Henderson came up big with a two-run homer for a 6-3 margin.

Bell closed the bottom half out with two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice for her third win this season.
