PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Texas Southern softball dropped a doubleheader at Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon.

Texas Southern’s late rally in the seventh fell short as Prairie View A&M claimed the opener 4-3.
TSU struck first in the second as Julia Bilbao, who reached on a leadoff walk, scored off a pair of PVAMU fielding errors. The lead grew to 2-0 in the third as Tevanae Tate doubled in Crimson Davis from second. PVAMU tied it at 2-all in the bottom frame and moved ahead 3-2 in the fourth after an RBI single. The deficit increased to 4-2 after the sixth but TSU attempted to battle back to open the seventh.
Paige Jackson opened the inning with a single followed by a PVAMU error which allowed Ashling Shahan to reach base. Danielle Sonnier drew a walk to load the bases but TSU suffered an untimely strikeout. A wild pitch closed the gap to 4-3 but PVAMU closed the contest out with a groundout and pop up.
Jackson led TSU with a 2-for-3 outing and a run scored while Jazmine Gendorf dropped the decision on the mound.

TSU couldn’t get enough offense when needed as PVAMU closed out the series with a 3-0 win.
It was a pitching duel early on as PVAU broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth to lead 2-0. TSU had two outs in the fifth but allowed an RBI single to trail 3-0 after five. TSU had a runner in scoring position in the sixth and two runners on in the seventh but couldn’t take advantage as PVAMU held on both times.
Tate led TSU with a 2-for-3 outing followed by Bilbao’s two walks and a hit. Naomi Reyes struck out seven but dropped the decision on the mound.
TSU is back in action on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader versus Incarnate Word.
