LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Texas Southern University soccer team dropped its season opener to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the opener of the Cowgirl Classic on Friday night.
Tulsa would strike quickly with its first goal within the first four minutes of regulation. The Golden Hurricane kept TSU on its heels defensively throughout the first half as they would tack on three more goals on 10 shots en route to a 4-0 first half.
The Tigers began to find their offensive rhythm in the second half as Desiree Harte and Jada MacLean recorded shots. However, Tulsa's offensive production carried over into the second half as they tacked on three goals for the final 7-0 margin.
TSU finished the game with a 47 percent possession total while goalie Salma Ghazal recorded eight saves on the defensive side.
TSU returns to action on Sunday at the University of North Texas in Denton. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed via meangreensports.com.
