HOUSTON- Texas Southern hopes to continue its terrific start to regular season-conference play as they host Grambling State in its home opener at the HPE Arena.
The double-header begins with the Lady Tigers who enter the game at 9-5, (3-0) in conference play.
The Lady Tigers are coming off of their last game against Prairie View A&M, where TSU won the game 70-62.
Kennerson led the way for the Lady Tigers with a game-high 24 points and four steals.
Last season, TSU split the season series with Grambling, with each team winning on the road. The last time the two faced each other at the HPE Arena, Grambling narrowly escaped with a victory, 49-46.
This season Grambling State Lady Tigers come in the game with a conference record of 3-1, led by sophomore standouts Shakyla Hill and Jazmine Boyd.
Part two of the double-header features a battle between a tale of different stories. Texas Southern Men's team, the undoubted favorite to win the SWAC, comes to meet Grambling State who are hovering around .500 and are searching for their identity as they continue in SWAC play.
Last season, TSU swept Grambling in the two-game season series.
This year, there are new faces for the TSU Tigers and a new leading scorer in Zach Lofton with 17.1 points per game.
The Tigers are coming off of a tough battle in Prairie View where they squeaked by winning 87-82. Lofton scored 21 points for the Tigers and Jalan McCloud poured in 16 off of the bench.
Both men and women Texas Southern teams are looking to start out 4-0 in consecutive seasons.
