HOUSTON – Texas Southern University's men's track and field team saw two its competitors when first place Saturday at the FasTrak Invitational.
At the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston, TSU's Taylor Levine and Jacob Price were winners in their respective events, the high jump and the 800-meter run.
Levine was the only high jumper at the event to clear two meters, as he set a personal best by clearing a height of 2.03 meters (approximately 6 feet, 8 inches). A sophomore, Levine set a personal best with that jump.
TSU ended up with three of the top five high jumpers in the event. Fellow sophomores Brandon Goins and Karon Bain finished fourth (1.83 meters cleared) and fifth (1.78 meters cleared), respectively.
In the 800-meter run, senior Jacob Price broke the tape at the finish line with a time of 1 minute, 57.95 seconds. His finishing time was more than six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
TSU placed runners in second and third place in the 60-meter dash. Roman Turner placed second with a time of 6.69 seconds, which was eight-hundredths of a second off the winning time. In third place was Jodee Archer-Harvey, whose time of 6.78 marked a personal best.
The Tigers also had solid performances in the longer distances. Junior runner Jorge Martinez finished second in the mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 33.2 seconds. Just behind him was Luis Delreal, who finished fourth with a time of 4:34.98.
Delreal, a freshman, also set a personal best with his third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, completing the event in a time of 9:18.62.
In the 4x400-meter relays, Price teamed up with Mykele Young-Sanders, Kenneth White, and Frederick Whitaker to take a second-place finish. The Tigers finished with a time of 3:19.84, second among eight competing squads.
In the throwing events, senior Chris Allen finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.44 meters.
The Tigers will return to the Yeoman Fieldhouse this weekend to take part in the Houston Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
