HOUSTON, TX — Joseph's two-run homer in the eighth inning lifted Southern University to a dramatic 16-15 win over Texas Southern on Thursday, capping a game that featured five lead changes and a flurry of offense from both teams.

Southern trailed 15-14 in the top of the eighth when Joseph launched a go-ahead shot to left field, sealing the Jaguars' comeback.

Jaden Flores led Texas Southern at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the seventh, and singles in the first and second innings. Tyler Legendre also homered for the Tigers, who racked up 15 hits and stole six bases.

Southern opened the scoring in the first on an error, but Texas Southern responded with a triple by Bryce Hughes and a groundout by Jaden Jones to tie it. The Jaguars regained the lead in the second on a two-run double by Cardell Thibodeaux.

Texas Southern surged ahead in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on a homer by Legendre, a single by Jonathan Trejo, a double by Kelton Phillips, and a wild pitch.

Taj Bates homered for Southern in the third, and the Jaguars exploded for five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a grand slam from Lucky to take a 10-6 lead.

The Tigers answered with a seven-run bottom half, capped by Evan Joubert's two-run single, to go up 13-10. Southern's Jacoby Radcliffe homered in the fifth, and Bates added a three-run double in the seventh to put the Jaguars ahead 14-13.

Flores briefly gave Texas Southern the lead again with his homer in the bottom of the seventh before Joseph's decisive blast in the eighth.

Bubba Moya took the loss for Texas Southern, allowing two runs on two hits in one inning. Starter Calvin McClendon gave up 10 hits and 10 runs (eight earned) over four innings. Southern's starter allowed six runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Southern collected 16 hits, led by Bates, who went 3-for-6 with five RBIs. Beny Bikar also had three hits, while Radcliffe, Lucky, and Joseph each had multiple hits.

Jones led Texas Southern with three RBIs despite going 1-for-6. Phillips and Flores each had three hits, and Hughes and Trejo added two apiece.
