BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University were picked to finish at the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's divisional softball standings in 2019 and placed five players on the preseason all-conference teams.
Following a vote of the conference's head coaches and sports information directors, Marissa Padron, Julia Bilbao, Tevanae Tate, Tyra Williams, and Ebony Wiltz earned all-conference honors. Padron was named to the All-SWAC First Team as a catcher, while the others earned spots on the All-SWAC Second Team.
The voting also revealed Texas Southern to be a co-favorite to win the SWAC's West Division, along with in-state rival Prairie View A&M. Both teams earned 82 voting points and nine first-place votes.
TSU enters the 2019 season having won last nine SWAC West Division titles. The Lady Tigers open the 2019 season Wednesday, Feb. 13, when they visit Sam Houston State.
