BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern junior guard Joyce Kennerson was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week following exceptional performances during games played from Nov. 21 through 27.
Kennerson averaged 25.7 points per game and 3.7 assists per game and climbed to ninth on Texas Southern University's all-time scoring list while leading the Lady Tigers during their 1-2 week. After missing the team's second game of the season with an illness, Kennerson didn't miss a beat in her return to the lineup in the team's home opener against Texas State. The junior from Port Arthur scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-21 (57 percent) shooting against the Bobcats. She also made 57 percent of her 3-point shots, going 4-for-7.

In Friday's win over New Mexico State, Kennerson sparked a memorable fourth-quarter comeback by scoring 16 points (of her game-high 28) in the final period as the Lady Tigers outscored the Aggies 32-4 in the final 10 minutes. Kennerson shot 8-of-13 against the Aggies and handed out five assists and three steals.

For the week, Kennerson shot 50 percent from the floor (24 of 48) and made 85 percent (22 of 26) of her free throw attempts. She climbed seven spots from 16th to ninth on the all-time TSU scoring list during her three games this week; she has scored 981 points during her TSU career.

The Lady Tigers return to action Wednesday when they visit Sam Houston State for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff. The game can be watched on ESPN3.
