FLOWOOD, Miss. – Texas Southern men’s golf team leads the field by four shots after day one of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championships.
“We had another team effort lead by our senior,” Texas Southern University head golf coach, Dr. Gary Grandison said.
Senior Landon Johnstone closed out the opening round with the individual lead in the men’s championship after firing the day’s low round of 2-under-par, 70.
Johnstone turned level and finished strong with three birdies on the back nine. Freshman William O’Connor is two strokes back and tied for fourth place following his even-par, 72. Junior Devansh Chadha and freshman Joel Sullivan posted a 2-over 74, tying them for seventh.
“We are aware of what it takes to accomplish our goals and we are gearing up for tomorrow”, Dr. Grandison concluded.
The Tigers tee up for the second round of the SWAC Championships Tuesday morning with an 8:50 a.m. start at The Refuge Golf Club.
