BILOXI, Miss. – Jackson State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Friday as the host Tigers defeated Texas Southern 15-0.
At Biloxi's MGM Stadium, JSU's Wesley Reyes hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to set the pace for the game. Jackson State plated three runs apiece in four consecutive innings, and led 12-0 after five.
TSU's Seth Oliver absorbed the loss, tossing four innings and giving up seven earned runs. He struck out six batters in the game. Ryan Hawkins pitched the remaining four innings for the visiting Tigers.
Texas Southern fell to 0-5 with the loss. Jackson State improved to 2-3 with the win. Jonathan Aponte pitched a complete game for JSU.
TSU's Christian Sanchez knocked two base hits. Jackson State's Jesus Santana knocked in five runs, while Reyes collected four RBIs.
The two teams return to action Saturday at 3 p.m.
