Griffin tabbed SWAC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Texas Southern's Derrick Griffin was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in week five of the regular season.

In his only game of the week, Griffin notched a double-double against 11th-ranked Louisville on Dec.10. Griffin scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and pulled down 26 rebounds (15 offensive) against the Cardinals, who ranked No. 7 in rebounds per game as a team nationally. Griffin's 26 rebounds is the most in a single game by any player in the country thus far this year.
Currently, Griffin is averaging a double-double with 12.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, and has achieved double figures in points and rebounds in six of the Tigers' nine games this year. He is currently riding a five-game double-double streak and dating back to last season, has posted a double-double in 20 of his past 25 games.
