Texas Southern University's Artavia Ford was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, becoming the first player to be honored twice this season.
Ford posted the second double-double of her Texas Southern career last Wednesday in leading the Lady Tigers to a 70-62 win at Florida International in the team's non-conference finale. Her previous win came at the end of November when she averaged a double-double over two games in Puerto Rico.
The 6-foot-3 transfer from UT-Arlington scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting and pulled in 10 rebounds at FIU. She also blocked a shot and made all four of her free throw attempts. The win upped TSU's record to 6-5; the Lady Tigers open SWAC play Monday, Jan. 2, at Alcorn State.
