BATON ROUGE, La. – The TSU women's track & field team placed sixth overall at the 2025 SWAC Outdoor Championship at Southern University.
On Sunday, Destinee Payne brought home the first medal of the event for TSU with a third-place length (19-0.5) in the long jump. Alyvia Brown won the team's first gold medal of the event with a first-place finish (38:43.29) in the 10,000 while Ronelle Plaza (159-01) placed seventh in the hammer to earn points.
Ryann Richards earned points for TSU on Monday with a jump of 9-11.25 in the pole vault while Shaunece Miller (4,259) and A'Keela McMaster (4,060) placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the heptathlon.
On Tuesday, Payne placed fifth with a personal-best mark in the triple jump of 39-09.25. Angela Sanchez (134-06) and Rehanna Roberts (132-08) went 5-6 in the discus. Brown finished fourth with a personal-best time of 4:36.98 in the 1,500-meter run while Lyriq Ray ran 14.19 to place seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
Cesley Williams ran a personal-best and finished one-tenth of a second from a title she placed second in the 400 (53.4). Bayli George placed sixth in the event with a personal-best 54.33. Erica Grant finished fifth (11.7) in the 100 and sixth in the 200 (24.14) while Desirae Roberts ran 1:00.27 in the 400-meter hurdles for a personal-best and second-place finish.
Alyvia Brown capped off a solid meet as she won her second gold medal with a run of 18:23.96 in the 5,000.
Several individuals will await their next destination as the NCAA West Regionals will take place in College Station, Texas May 28-31.
