HARAHAN, La. – Texas Southern bowling kicked off the 2021-22 campaign at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane this past weekend.
Texas Southern started out the tournament on Friday in Baker play with a 1-4 mark as they defeated Grambling State but fell in close matches to Lincoln Memorial and Vanderbilt.
The Tigers opened the traditional round on day two with a win over Grambling State (899-682) once again but came up just short in matches against Louisiana Tech (1,025-895), Jackson State (973-837) and Florida A&M (910-811).
TSU returned to the lanes for bracket play on Sunday and closed out the day on a positive note as they went 2-1 with a pair of wins against Grambling State while dropping a heartbreaker to Jackson State in seven games which was decided by 14 pins in the final game.
Evan Smith led TSU with a 187.6 average in traditional matches while Shyanne Ciesiolka followed with a 185.8. Ciesiolka bowled a team-high 228 in Saturday’s match followed by newcomer Payton Trevino (211), Cassie De La Fuente (209) and Smith (208).
The team is back in action this Friday-Sunday at the Rattler Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. One week later, the team makes a rare Houston appearance on Nov. 5-7 as they’ll participate in the Sam Houston Track Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl in Houston.
