Baseball Run-Rules UAPB In Game 2 Of SWAC Opener
Adderley’s triple brought in Gabriel Vasquez and Chase Cromer before the UAPB defense gave up four errors allowing three more runs to score for an early 5-0 TSU lead.
TSU (16-6, 2-0 SWAC) tacked on two more in the second when Jeffry Mercado drove in Vasquez and then Adderley later scoring on a double steal. A wild pitch in the third pushed the TSU lead out to 8-0 before UAPB (7-10, 0-2 SWAC) got its first run of the outing on a sacrifice fly to right.
TSU responded when Adderley’s RBI single to left center brought in Vasquez to begin the scoring in the top of the fourth. Alexander Olivo then stepped to the plate and plastered a pitch to center for a double deep enough to allow Adderley to score from first. Mercado’s single to short driving in Olivo would cap off the scoring in the fourth with TSU staking claim to an 11-1 lead.
A pair of UAPB runs in the fourth and fifth innings each would be all the Golden Tigers would muster the rest of the way as Olivo would score on Mercado’s sacrifice fly in the sixth before an error allowed the final TSU run to score in the seventh.
Adderley would finish the day going 2-for-3 with three RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base, a HBP and a triple while Olivo went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.
Domenic Martinez (3-1) picked up the six-inning victory by giving up three runs with just two earned on five hits, six strikeouts and two walks. Jacob Riordan (2-1) took his first loss of the season on the bump for UAPB after being touched up for 11 runs with seven earned on eight hits with four HBPs and four strikeouts.
